At RedCAT Systems, we are focused on ways to establish and cultivate team culture in a virtual workplace. We’re expanding this mission to introduce our Employee Spotlight blog series. Each post in this series will feature a Question and Answer style approach with one of our team members.
With Veterans Day this week, we wanted to kick off our series with Wade Key who serves as senior non-commissioned officer in charge (S2 NCOIC) for the Army Reserves. He is also a member of our customer success team as a senior solutions consultant.
How long have you served?
It will be 22 years in January.
What skills and attributes from the military have helped you transition to the private sector?
Punctuality, determination, resilience and most of all flexibility.
Tell us about your proudest moment while serving.
Becoming a non-commissioned officer. I was promoted to sergeant during my first deployment to Iraq. I was just 19 when I became a team leader in the Infantry. This experience made me mature a little quicker than others my age. I had people depending on me and I no longer had to worry only about myself. The focus shifted to prioritizing others and supporting them.
What motivates you while serving?
Being able to help others. Through the years I have had the opportunity to develop fellow soldiers and help expand their skills and understanding. It has been a joy watching others grow and flourish in their careers.
How do you balance your work at RedCAT with your military responsibilities?
RedCAT is a great company to work for and enjoy my peers and partners – there is a sense of belonging. Everyone is understanding of my military obligations, providing me the time needed to fulfill my requirements. Coming up I have a month-long military leadership course, and RedCAT has created a stress-free environment as I plan for those weeks.
What do you enjoy doing in your downtime?
Spending time with my amazing wife and knocking off tasks from my honey-do list. One of my goals is to buy a classic car and learn how to restore it.
Thank you, Wade, for your service and for being our first Employee Spotlight.
Be on the lookout for future stories about our team DNA.
